Phill Evans

I studied at the North Wales School of Art & Design, part of Glyndwr University in Wrexham, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration.

I have, throughout my career, worked predominantly with self-publishing authors, although I have undertaken a wide range of work from murals to theatre set design.

I work digitally, mostly using Adobe Photoshop. Although recently, I have increasingly been making 3D objects using a variety of media, due to difficulty with drawing as a result of Multiple Sclerosis.

My creative process often starts with a sketch, then a series of sketches, I will go to Google image search to find reference material and quite often collaging these images into the finished picture. In my 3D work, I was introduced to working with EVA foam as a sculptural medium, that has enabled me to produce an array of props and costumes.

My work is entirely commission based; as an illustrator my work as, taken out of context they are just diverse pictures. I am currently developing a commission to build a life size Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the stage and a huge martian for an outdoor theatrical event in North Wales. I will also be producing work as part of a group of performers and artists  for the Welshpool to Llanfair Carilion railway on July 7th, called “Theatre from Train”.
